Elterwater is a village located within the beautiful country of Cumbria, also known as the Lake District. The village itself lies half a mile North West of the lake of Elter Water and only one quarter of the houses are permanently occupied, with the rest being exclusively holiday cottages in which you can enjoy your stay.
There are many things to do in the area, which is famed for its stunning wildlife, views and excellent outdoor pursuits. There are several walks and hikes in and around the village where you can fully explore the rich ecosystem of Cumbrian countryside.
However if you’re after something to do on a rainy day, the Beatrix Potter Gallery is close, where you can see a variety of artistic works by the great children’s author and the towns of Windermere, Ambleside and Kendal can be accessed easily by the nearby A591.

Located three miles from Elterwater; Dove Cottage is former home of William Wordsworth; one of the world’s greatest poets.
Likely to have been built during the 17th Century and for some time during its history, an inn; the cottage was the scene of some of Wordworth’s most supreme works.
Now one of the Lake District’s main tourist attractions, Dove Cottage is visited by around 70,000 people a year.
