Felixstowe

Lending its name to the largest container port in the United Kingdom, Felixstowe is a popular seaside town in the county of Suffolk, England. Amongst the fabulous attractions you’d expect from a seaside location such as this is Landguard Fort, the site of the last opposed invasion of England in 1667.

The current fort was built in the 18th century and hosts regular military re-enactments. The fort is in the care of English Heritage and managed by the Landguard Fort Trust. You can also explore the local history in the Felixstowe Museum, where you can find a reference library, historic maps, photo archive and Roman artefacts.

Those who enjoy the wonders of nature will love the Landguard Bird Observatory, housed in disused Military Buildings in the Nature Reserve and those who love a bit of excitement and fast-paced fun will love the Adventure Golf and the Amusement Park located within Felixstowe, all within walking distance of the many fantastic guesthouses and hotels.

Housed in a former submarine mining establishment ‘twixt Fort and Port’, Felixstowe Museum is an exhibition created in 14 rooms.
Featuring military artefacts, marine displays and household items from a bygone era; the museum also hosts a number of temporary exhibitions throughout the year.

Originally the site of a number of fortifications built by Henry VIII in 1543, Landguard Point was re-constructed to protect East Anglia from invasion.
Visitors can now wander the fort at their own pace using audio tours which are included in the admission price.
