One of the best things in Greater Manchester are the people themselves with a real welcome to the city. There has been a settlement here since Roman times and the city has grown and prospered through the Industrial Revolution to the place it is today. With two famous football clubs at Manchester city and Manchester United soccer is a passion in the city and watching a match played at home a real experience.
Manchester is also famous for one of the longest running soap operas, Coronation Street, and a popular attraction is the Granada TV Studios where filming takes place. The Manchester Ship Canal is a famous engineering feat dating from the Victorian age and was used to bring ships in from Merseyside to Salford Quays. Cruises are available up the canal to Merseyside.
Manchester has an excellent shopping centre and concert venues including Bridgewater Hall. There is a vibrant nightlife with many clubs and bars, and the city is also host to many international meeting and conferences. A variety of excellent restaurants make eating out a real pleasure. The city still has a tram network and excellent connections to the international airport in Manchester.
Throughout the year there are a number of festivals including the Manchester Jazz Festival. Just in and around the city are a number of good parks and gardens such as the beautiful Piccadilly Botanical; Gardens, Alexandra Park and Mossbank Park and Debdale Outdoor Centre is a popular activities centre. The city of Manchester has a number of museums and galleries to visit including the City Art Galleries and the Museum of Science and Industry. Greater Manchester is an excellent place for a short break or business trio and is well connected to other parts of the United Kingdom.
