Horse Riding

UK travel information

What better way can there be to see the British countryside than on horseback, especially on a glorious summer’s day. The UK is said to be a nation of animal lovers, and the many opportunities available to people of all ages to go horse riding in the country would back that statement up.

Stables up and down the country welcome visitors to take a supervised horse ride for an hour long session, a day trip or even a week long holiday. From the Scottish Glens down to the Brecon Beacon in Wales and the Yorkshire Dales in England, the UK has amazing scenery that can be enjoyed on horseback.

Whether you are an experienced rider or a beginner there is something for everyone in the UK. Horses are paired with the riders based on their ability, experience and size with excellent instruction usually available for the less experienced riders. Once you have made your acquaintance with your new equine friend you can enjoy the ride and the spectacular views on offer.

Horse Riding

Horse riding tours are not limited to the countryside as the coasts of Britain offer equally fantastic experiences. Beach rides are available in many places including in Pembrokeshire, Wales or Bournemouth in the south of England. The miles of sandy beach and sand dunes are great fun to ride along as well as taking your horse in to the sea as the waves lap at their hooves.

On a hot summer’s day a ride through the sheltered forests of Great Britain can be a welcome release from the heat. Horse riding tours through the home of Robin Hood, Sherwood Forest are great fun and may resurrect memories of the old Errol Flynn movies, or for younger riders Kevin Costner and Russell Crowe films.

Half day or full day riding tours often take in a lunch break as part of the experience, with either a picnic or a stop at one the many wonderful pubs in the UK. Some stables also have campsites nearby for overnight stays such as the Newcourt Farm Campsite in the Brecon Beacons National Park.

If riding a horse does not appeal to you then there are excellent equine alternatives such as taking a carriage ride through one of the UK’s many historic towns and cities. Horse drawn open top carriage tours in the four capital cities, Belfast, Cardiff, London and Edinburgh are a real treat especially at Christmas time.
