Northamptonshire has a surprising amount of things for visitors to see and do in the county. There are a number of stately homes open to the public including Rockingham Castle and Deene Park. The former home of Diana, Princess of Wales at Althorp is open annually between her birthday and the date of her death. Northamptonshire has a number of beautiful market towns such as historic Towcester with a conservation area. The Guildhall and Square in Northampton is a feature of this town famous for making boots. Oundle on the banks of the River Nene is an ancient town popular with artists and water meadows.
Northamptonshire will be known to many people as the home of British Motorsports and the Formula One Grand Prix Track at Silverstone.
For motoring based activities there is Kart Racing at Whilton Mill and even tank driving activities at Helmdon. There is white water rafting and fishing on the River Nene and windsurfing and jet skis at Pitsford Reservoir.
There are excellent walks in the countryside including at Rockingham Forest and an annual walking festival around Wellingborough. The Jurassic Way is a long distance walk through the county with many historic sights along the way.
Many people visit Northamptonshire for the Grand Union Canal with traverses the county and has many narrow boats and locks. Try Braunston for a picturesque and scenic spot to view the waterways in the area. The Blisworth Tunnel is one of the longest of its kind and the Canal Museum in Stoke Bruerne is a fascinating insight into the history of the waterways. With enticing guest houses and good hotels with local food Northamptonshire is a great place to base oneself for a holiday, and it is centrally located to explore more of England.
