West Midlands Safari Park’s drive through safari covers four miles of ground as it winds through 100 acres of various animal enclosures and other attractions. There are more than 600 exotic animals to see including the only white lions in the UK. They are almost extinct in the wild.
As well as the lions there are elephants, tigers, wolves, zebra, buffalo, gnu and camels. Visitors are also given the chance to feed some of the animals with special food – there is a small charge for this. It is possible to drive through the enclosures as many times as necessary to see all of the animals.
Certain types of vehicles are not permitted to drive through some of the reserves, eg convertibles and three wheelers. A safari bus is available at extra cost for visitors with this type of vehicle or for those who don’t want to travel in their own vehicles. Externally mounted spare wheels and wheel covers should be removed.
After visiting the drive through safari a major attraction is the sea lion pool where the sea lions put on a show for visitors. The West Midland Safari Park is also home to the largest family group of hippopotami in the UK. They can be found in the Hippo Lake.
As well as the animal attractions West Midlands Safari Park has a large amusement area which offers 30 fun rides for all the family. For those seeking adventure there is the Wild River Rafting Ride, the Venom Tower Drop and the Zambesi Water Splash. For more conventional entertainment there are carousel rides with zebras instead of horses, dodgems, and the Cubs’ Kingdom for younger children. There are additional charges for the rides.
There are several choices when it comes to eating. The Explorers Cafe has an African theme and provides hot and cold meals. A burger bar and pizza restaurant are also on site. There is also a number of kiosks selling ice cream and light refreshments in various parts of the grounds.
There are no less than four gift and souvenir shops located around the park, offering a wide range of mementos to take home.
The majority of the park has access for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Wheelchairs can be hired if either car keys or a driving licence is left as a deposit.
Dogs are not allowed in the park but may be left in kennels upon payment of a refundable deposit.
